Description
The lesion predominantly involves the great toe which is blackened and shows loss of subcutaneous
tissue, with exposure of tendons on the undersurface. The skin surrounding the area is bluish in
colour and beginning to peel so that this too has lost its viability. (The skin on the dorsum of the
foot in line with the fourth and fifth toes is peeling, but this is probably artifact occurring after the
foot was removed and before it was adequately fixed).
