Description
A somewhat lobulated mass measuring approximately 6 x 4 cm.; it narrows to an apex at one end;
the cut surface has a rather whorled appearance.
History
This child presented at the age of 8 years with a lump in the left side of the neck. At
exploration, it was found to be arising from the left cervical sympathetic chain, pushing the carotid
sheath anteriorly, and jutting into the pharynx medially. Post-operatively, she developed a left
Horner's syndrome. The histology of the lesion is that of a ganglioneuroma.
