Description
The specimen is a kidney sectioned in the coronal plane. Numerous cysts are seen throughout the
cortex and medulla. The majority of these appear empty, however some contain blood stained fluid
and occasional small renal stones are seen. Large cysts extend through to the renal capsule and distort
the capsular surface of the kidney. The features are those of autosomal dominant or adult type
polycystic kidney.
