Description
The specimen shows 5 pieces of adrenal gland, 3 from one adrenal and 2 from the other. The
specimen mounted to show the long axis of the adrenal shows that approximately half of the gland
is infarcted; the area involved is greyish in colour and shows an obvious haemorrhagic infiltrate.
The specimen mounted to show the cut surface of the gland shows the same features but in a more
patchy way. The specimen cut in the long axis demonstrates rather more clearly the effect of
involvement of a single vessel. The patient showed adrenal vein thrombosis not demonstrated in
the specimen.
